Common questions
Is there a direct train from Fez to Marrakech?
Yes, ONCF runs trains between Fès and Marrakech, some direct and others with a change, often in Casablanca. The trip takes about 7 hours. The high-speed Al Boraq line does not serve Fès or Marrakech, so a faster combination rarely saves much time. Check the ONCF app for the day's timetable.
Is the bus or the train better from Fez to Marrakech?
The train is usually better: it is slightly faster, smoother and not affected by traffic. CTM and Supratours buses are comfortable and similar in price, and an overnight bus can save a hotel night. Take the bus if the train times do not suit you or if you want the inland route.
Can I fly from Fez to Marrakech?
Direct domestic flights between Fès and Marrakech have operated at times, but not reliably year-round. Check current airline schedules before counting on one. When a flight exists it takes about an hour, but add airport transfers and check-in time, so the time saved compared with the 7-hour train is smaller than it looks.
How long does it take to drive from Fez to Marrakech?
About 5 hours 30 minutes to 6 hours on toll motorways via Rabat and Casablanca, roughly 530 km. Tolls add about 150–200 MAD. The inland road via Ifrane and Beni Mellal is shorter in distance but slower, with mountain stretches. Do not drive into the Marrakech medina; use a guarded car park.
