Tips

Common questions

Can I fly to Paxos?

No. Paxos has no airport. The nearest airport is Corfu, and from there you continue by boat from the new port to Gaios. Fast passenger boats take about 1 to 1½ hours. Plan your flight so you arrive in Corfu with enough time for the last boat of the day, as there are no night sailings.

Can I do Paxos as a day trip from Corfu?

Yes. In summer many boat excursions leave Corfu in the morning, visit Paxos and often Antipaxos, and return in the evening. Alternatively take a scheduled fast boat out and back. A day is enough for Gaios and a swim, though Paxos is quiet and pleasant for a few nights too.

Do I need to book ahead?

In July and August, yes: fast boats have limited seats and can sell out, especially on weekends. Booking a few days ahead online or through a Corfu travel agency is sensible. In spring and autumn you can usually buy on the day. In winter services are reduced, so check current timetables.

Can I take a car to Paxos?

Yes, on the car ferries, some of which call at Igoumenitsa on the mainland, so the trip takes longer than the fast boat. Most visitors do not need a car: Paxos is about 10 km long, and scooters, small hire cars and taxis are available on the island.
