How to get from Chios to Ikaria
Chios and Ikaria are both in the eastern Aegean, but direct ferries between them are few, often only a couple a week on longer island-hopping lines, sometimes calling at Samos or Fourni on the way. When there is no direct boat, the alternative is to go via Samos or via Piraeus. There is no direct flight.
Best option: Ferry. A direct or one-stop ferry is the only realistic link, even though sailings are infrequent.

Tips
- Plan your dates around the ferry timetable, not the other way round.
- Ikaria has two ports, Agios Kirykos in the south and Evdilos in the north; book accommodation near the one you arrive at.
- Strong winds can delay or cancel sailings in the eastern Aegean.
- Hire a car on Ikaria; buses are rare and distances on its mountain roads are long.
Common questions
Is there a direct ferry from Chios to Ikaria?
Sometimes. A few island-hopping ferries on eastern Aegean lines connect Chios with Ikaria, often only a couple of times a week and sometimes with a stop at Samos or Fourni. Sailing days and times change each season, so check current timetables before planning. If none fits, go via Samos, or via Piraeus or Athens.
How long does it take to get from Chios to Ikaria?
On a direct or one-stop ferry, roughly 3–6 hours depending on the route and stops. If you have to change at Samos, it can take most of a day or need an overnight stay. Flying via Athens takes about 4–7 hours including the connection, but costs more.
Can I fly from Chios to Ikaria?
There is no direct flight between Chios and Ikaria. Both islands have airports with flights to Athens, so you can connect there. Ikaria flights use small aircraft, have limited seats and are affected by wind, so book well ahead in summer and keep the ferry as a backup.
Which port on Ikaria should I go to?
Ikaria has two main ports: Agios Kirykos on the south coast and Evdilos on the north. Ferries call at one or both depending on the line. Evdilos is closer to the north coast villages and beaches such as Armenistis; Agios Kirykos suits the south and the hot springs. Check your ferry’s port before booking a room.
