How to get from Chania to Milos
There is no regular direct year-round connection. In summer, some high-speed ferry routes link Crete with the western Cyclades, but often from Heraklion rather than Chania, and may include Milos with stops on the way; check current timetables. Otherwise the reliable route is the overnight ferry from Chania (Souda) to Piraeus and then a ferry to Milos, or flights via Athens.
Best option: Flight. Flying via Athens is the most predictable way to make this trip in a day outside the peak ferry season.

Tips
- Souda port is about 7 km from Chania town; buses meet the ferries.
- In winter, Milos ferry sailings are fewer and may be reduced in strong winds.
- Combine with Athens if you were going to spend time there anyway.
- Book cabins on the overnight Crete ferry in August.
Common questions
Is there a direct ferry from Chania to Milos?
Not on a regular year-round basis. Some summers have seen high-speed ferries linking Crete with the western Cyclades, sometimes including Milos, but routes and departure ports change and they often sail from Heraklion. Check the current season's timetable. The dependable alternative is Chania (Souda) to Piraeus overnight, then on to Milos.
Can I fly from Chania to Milos?
There is no direct flight. You fly Chania to Athens, which takes about an hour, then take a short domestic flight from Athens to Milos. Allow 4–6 hours with the connection. Milos flights use small aircraft and fill up in summer, so book early and check baggage allowances.
What is the cheapest way?
The overnight ferry from Souda to Piraeus in deck class, followed by a conventional ferry to Milos, is usually cheapest, especially if it also saves a hotel night. It takes far longer than flying. Flights via Athens booked early can be reasonable, but prices rise sharply in summer.
Can I take a car?
Yes, on the Souda–Piraeus ferry and on conventional ferries from Piraeus to Milos. Car fares are significant, and in August car space must be booked ahead. Renting a car on Milos is often simpler than bringing one from Crete.
