Tips
- Choose first class for an assigned seat at busy times.
- A high-speed line extension to Marrakech is under construction; until it opens, regular trains are the option.
- Use metered petit taxis from Marrakech station to the medina, or agree the fare first.
- From Casablanca airport there is no need to go into the city centre: take the airport train and change at Casa Voyageurs or Ain Sebaa.
Common questions
How long is the train from Casablanca to Marrakech?
About 2 hours 40 minutes from Casa Voyageurs, with departures roughly every one to two hours. First class costs a little more and gives you an assigned seat. The Al Boraq high-speed train does not yet reach Marrakech; an extension is under construction, so check the ONCF site for the current situation.
How do I get from Casablanca airport to Marrakech?
Take the ONCF airport train from Mohammed V airport and change to a Marrakech train at Casa Voyageurs or another connecting station; the whole trip is about 3 hours 30 to 4 hours with the change. Alternatively, a private transfer drives directly in about 2 hours 30 to 3 hours.
Is the bus or the train better?
The train is usually better: it is faster, smoother and not affected by traffic, and second-class fares are only slightly higher than the bus. CTM and Supratours buses are comfortable and useful if train times do not suit you. Both arrive outside the medina, so you will need a short taxi ride.
Can I do Marrakech as a day trip from Casablanca?
It is possible, with about five to six hours of travel in total, enough for Jemaa el-Fna, the souks and a garden or palace. It is a rushed day, though, and the square is at its liveliest in the evening, so staying at least one night is more rewarding.
