Tips

Common questions

Is it quicker to fly or take the ferry?

The flight itself is about 35 minutes, but with airport transfers and security the total is similar to the fast ferry. Fred. Olsen Express from Agaete takes about 1 hour 20 minutes. The ferry is often more convenient, especially with luggage or a car.

Can I do Tenerife as a day trip from Gran Canaria?

Yes. Morning ferries and flights let you spend most of the day in Santa Cruz, La Laguna or even Teide, returning in the evening. Book both legs in advance and check the last return time. For Teide, renting a car in Tenerife makes it easier.

Can I take a rental car on the ferry?

Usually not. Most Canary Islands rental companies forbid taking cars between islands or require written permission. Check your contract before booking. Some local companies allow it for an extra fee. Otherwise rent a separate car on Tenerife on arrival. Several companies have desks at the airports and the port.

Which port do the ferries use?

Fred. Olsen sails from Agaete, in northwest Gran Canaria, with a free connecting bus from Las Palmas. Naviera Armas sails from Las Palmas port. Both arrive in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Check your ticket, as departure points differ between companies.
