Common questions
Is there a train from Cairo to Hurghada?
No. The Egyptian railway does not serve Hurghada. The nearest rail lines run along the Nile valley. To reach Hurghada you fly, take a long-distance bus, or drive along the Red Sea coast. If you want to combine Hurghada with Luxor, buses and private transfers link the two in about 4–5 hours.
How long does the bus take?
Usually about 6–7 hours, sometimes more with traffic leaving Cairo or stops at checkpoints. Several companies, including Go Bus, run frequent departures, with overnight options. Buy tickets online or at the company office and bring your passport, which may be checked.
What is the cheapest way?
The bus. Standard tickets are cheap, and even premium classes cost a fraction of most flights. Domestic flights booked early can be affordable too, and they save around five hours. Driving is cheap in fuel but tiring and best left to those familiar with Egyptian roads.
Do I need to book ahead?
For flights, booking ahead gives better fares, especially in winter high season and holidays. For buses, it is wise to book a day or two ahead on weekends and during Egyptian holidays, when departures fill up. Otherwise you can often buy on the day.
