How to get from Busan to Hiroshima
The usual route is a ferry from Busan to Fukuoka (Hakata) or Shimonoseki, then the Shinkansen to Hiroshima (about 1 h from Hakata). Flying via Fukuoka or another Japanese airport is quicker in the air but involves transfers. Allow most of a day either way.
Best option: Ferry. The ferry plus Shinkansen is a classic, direct-feeling route with no airport transfers.

Common questions
Is there a ferry from Busan to Japan?
Yes. Overnight ferries run from Busan to Fukuoka (Hakata) with Camellia Line and to Shimonoseki with the Kanpu (Pukwan) Ferry, arriving in the morning. Fast daytime boats to Hakata have run in the past, but services have been suspended at times, so check current status. From either port, take the Shinkansen to Hiroshima.
How long does the whole journey take?
By overnight ferry, about 11–12 hours at sea plus about 1 hour by Shinkansen, so you leave Busan in the evening and reach Hiroshima late the next morning. Flying to Fukuoka and taking the Shinkansen takes about 4–5 hours door to door, including airport formalities.
Is there a direct flight from Busan to Hiroshima?
Direct flights have operated at times but not consistently. Most travellers fly to Fukuoka, about an hour from Busan, and take the Shinkansen to Hiroshima in about 1 hour. Check airline schedules for your dates, as routes between Korea and regional Japanese airports change often.
What documents do I need?
A valid passport, and a visa if your nationality requires one for Japan. Many nationalities can enter Japan visa-free for short stays. You pass Korean exit control at the Busan terminal and Japanese immigration on arrival. Check current entry rules, including any online pre-registration, before travelling.
