Tips

Common questions

Is there a direct train from Bled to Venice?

No. Bled's stations (Lesce-Bled and Bled Jezero) have no direct trains to Italy, and rail routes via Ljubljana or Villach need several changes and take a long time. Most travellers take a bus to Ljubljana and then a long-distance bus to Venice, or drive, which is much faster.

How long is the drive from Bled to Venice?

About 3 hours for roughly 250–270 km, via Ljubljana and the Slovenian A1 to the Trieste area, then the Italian A4 to Venice. You need a Slovenian e-vignette, and Italian motorway tolls add about €15–20. Cars cannot enter Venice's historic centre, so park at Piazzale Roma, Tronchetto or Mestre.

What is the cheapest way from Bled to Venice?

Public transport: a local bus to Ljubljana and a long-distance bus from Ljubljana to Venice, for roughly €20–40 in total. The trip takes around 5 hours with the change. Driving alone costs more once the vignette, tolls, fuel and Venice parking are added, but it is economical when shared.

Do I need to book ahead?

Long-distance buses from Ljubljana to Venice can fill up in summer, so book a few days ahead. The Bled–Ljubljana bus usually does not need booking. Private transfers should be booked in advance. If driving, buy the Slovenian e-vignette before reaching the motorway to avoid fines.
