How to get from Bled to Hallstatt
Driving is by far the easiest way from Bled to Hallstatt, about 3 h 30–4 h for roughly 280 km through the Karawanken tunnel and the Tauern motorway. By train it takes about 6–7 h with three or more changes, ending at Hallstatt station across the lake, where a small boat takes you to the village.
Best option: Car. A car saves roughly half the journey time compared with the multi-change rail route and gets you close to Hallstatt's car parks.

Tips
- Buy the Slovenian and Austrian vignettes online before you leave; rental cars from Slovenia may only have the Slovenian one.

- If you rent in Slovenia, confirm that the car may be taken into Austria.
- Nearby Obertraun and Bad Goisern are cheaper places to stay with easy access.
Common questions
Is there a direct train from Bled to Hallstatt?
No. The rail route needs at least three changes, typically at Jesenice or Villach, Salzburg and Attnang-Puchheim, and takes about 6–7 hours. Hallstatt station is on the opposite shore of the lake, and a small passenger boat timed to the trains takes you across to the village. Check current timetables before you go.
How long is the drive from Bled to Hallstatt?
About 3 h 30–4 h for around 280 km, without long stops. The route crosses into Austria through the Karawanken tunnel and uses the Tauern motorway before smaller roads to the lake. Summer weekends can bring queues at the tunnels, so allow extra time then.
What tolls do I pay on the way?
You need the Slovenian e-vignette for motorways in Slovenia, an Austrian vignette, and separate tolls for the Karawanken tunnel and the Tauern section of the A10. Together these come to roughly €40–60 for one direction for a car. Buy vignettes online in advance.
Can I park in Hallstatt?
Not in the village itself, which is closed to visitors' cars. There are paid car parks just outside, from which you walk a few minutes into the centre. In summer they fill up by late morning, so arrive early or stay overnight and use your hotel's parking arrangement.
