How to get from Belgrade to Sibiu
Driving is the most practical option: about 450 km via Vršac and Timișoara, roughly 6–7 h including the border. By public transport you usually go Belgrade to Timișoara by bus, then a Romanian train or bus to Sibiu, which takes most of a day. There are no convenient direct flights.
Best option: Car. Public transport needs at least one change in Timișoara, while the drive is straightforward and lets you stop in Transylvanian towns on the way.

Common questions
Is there a direct train from Belgrade to Sibiu?
No. There is no direct service, and the cross-border rail link between Serbia and Romania has had little or no regular passenger traffic in recent years. The practical public transport route is a bus from Belgrade to Timișoara, then a Romanian train or bus on to Sibiu. Check current timetables before planning.
How long is the drive?
About 450 km, usually 6–7 hours including the border crossing. Most drivers go via Vršac to the Vatin–Moravița crossing, then Timișoara, and join the A1 motorway towards Deva and Sibiu. Some sections on the Romanian side are still national road. Border queues can add time in summer and around holidays.
What documents do I need at the border?
A valid passport or, for EU citizens, a national ID card. Romania is in the Schengen area while Serbia is not, so this is a full border check. Drivers need their vehicle registration and, for non-EU cars, a valid green card. Check current visa rules for your nationality, especially for Serbia.
Can I fly instead?
There is no convenient direct flight. Flying would mean connecting via another hub, and Sibiu airport has a limited number of routes. In most cases the total journey time is no shorter than driving, and it costs considerably more. Ground transport is the sensible choice for this route.
