How to get from Andros to Tinos
Andros and Tinos are neighbouring Cycladic islands on the same ferry line from Rafina. Ferries from Gavrio, the port of Andros, reach Tinos in about 1 h 15 to 2 h depending on the boat. There is no flight between them; Andros has no airport.
Best option: Ferry. Ferries are the only link and run daily on the Rafina–Andros–Tinos–Mykonos line, several times a day in summer.

Tips
- Ferries leave from Gavrio on the west coast of Andros, not from Chora, the island capital.
- Tinos has more than one ferry quay; check which one your boat uses when returning.
- Strong meltemi winds in July and August can delay or cancel fast boats.
- Around 15 August (the feast of the Dormition) Tinos is very busy with pilgrims; book ferries and rooms well ahead.
Common questions
How long is the ferry from Andros to Tinos?
Roughly 1 h 15 to 2 h, depending on whether you take a fast or a conventional ferry. All boats leave from Gavrio on the west coast of Andros and arrive at Tinos town. The same boats usually continue to Mykonos, so the line is busy in summer. Check current timetables, as times and frequencies change by season.
Can I take a car from Andros to Tinos?
Yes, on the conventional car ferries, which run daily on this line. Book the car space ahead in July and August, when the boats are full of Athenians heading for the islands. On Tinos a car is useful for reaching the marble villages in the interior, which are poorly served by buses.
Can I visit Tinos as a day trip from Andros?
In summer it is possible if the morning boat to Tinos and an afternoon or evening boat back fit together, which gives a few hours in Tinos town and perhaps a quick tour by taxi. In winter there are fewer sailings and the times rarely allow a same-day return, so an overnight stay is safer.
Do I need to book the Andros–Tinos ferry ahead?
Outside July and August, foot passengers can usually buy at the port agencies on the day. In high summer, and especially around 15 August, book online in advance, above all if you have a car. Fast boats sell out before conventional ones on busy days.
