How to get from Amorgos to Ios
Amorgos and Ios are linked only by sea; neither island has an airport. In summer some days have a direct high-speed sailing of about 1 h 30–2 h, while on other days you change at Naxos and the trip takes 3–5 h including the wait.
Best option: Ferry. Ferry is the only way between the two islands, and a direct summer sailing is quick and simple.

Tips
- Amorgos has two ports, Katapola and Aegiali; check which one your boat uses.
- The meltemi wind in July–August can delay or cancel small high-speed boats.
- Ios port (Ormos) is a short bus or taxi ride below Chora.
- If the timetable shows no direct boat, search Amorgos–Naxos and Naxos–Ios separately.
Common questions
Is there a direct ferry from Amorgos to Ios?
Sometimes. In summer some high-speed boats sail Amorgos–Ios directly on certain days, taking about 1 h 30–2 h. On other days, and in most of the winter, you need to change at Naxos. Routes are set each season, so check current timetables before you plan the rest of your trip.
Can I fly from Amorgos to Ios?
No. Neither Amorgos nor Ios has an airport. The nearest airports are on Naxos and Santorini, with flights mainly to Athens. Flying makes no sense for this short hop; the ferry, direct or with a change at Naxos, is the way to go.
What is the cheapest way from Amorgos to Ios?
A conventional (slow) ferry, either direct or via Naxos, is usually the cheapest, at about €40–60 in total. High-speed boats cost more but save time. Prices rise in July and August, and booking a few days ahead often gets a better fare and a seat.
Do I need to book ahead?
In July and August, yes, at least a few days before, as high-speed boats can sell out. In spring and autumn you can often buy at the port, but timetables are thinner, so check the schedule well before the day you want to sail.
