Food tours in Ronda: what to eat and which tour to book

Ronda

Ronda sits on a plateau split by the El Tajo gorge, in the mountains of Málaga province, and its food is inland Andalusian mountain food rather than coastal fried fish: slow-cooked stews of oxtail, lamb and kid, cured pork and sausages from the Serranía de Ronda, goat's cheese from the nearby Grazalema hills, migas, and cold tomato soups in summer. The plateau also grows vines, and the Serranía de Ronda is a wine area of its own with small wineries around the town. Tapas culture works as it does across Andalusia, with bars around Plaza del Socorro and the shopping street Carrera Espinel full of locals in the evening.

Use this page to know what to order and where, with rough 2026 prices. Restaurants with views over the gorge and the Puente Nuevo charge for the view; the bars a few streets away are where Rondeños eat. The tours shown are real GetYourGuide listings, with prices as seen when we checked; confirm the price and meeting point on the booking page before you pay.

Street food, sit-down or a cooking class?

Street food

Ronda has little street food in the market-stall sense. Quick eating is tapas at a bar counter, churros or tostadas for breakfast, and bocadillos (sandwiches) from bakeries and bars.

Sit-down meals

Tapas are the best way to eat: order one or two at a time at the bar, or raciones (larger plates) to share at a table. Lunch is from about 14:00 and dinner from about 21:00. Restaurants along the gorge and near the Puente Nuevo are mainly about the view; prices rise accordingly.

Cooking classes

A few cooking classes and wine-and-food experiences operate in and around Ronda, sometimes at farms or wineries outside town. They are not daily; check dates and transport.

How much to budget for food

StylePer person, per day*
Budget (street food, markets)€20–30 (tostada breakfast, tapas lunch, bocadillo or tapas dinner)
Mid-range (one sit-down meal a day)€40–60 (menú del día lunch and a tapas dinner with wine)
Splurge (tasting menus, wine)€90+ (fine dining or a winery lunch)

Vegetarian, halal and gluten-free

Vegetarian & vegan: Possible on tapas: tortilla, salmorejo (ask without ham), gazpacho, berenjenas fritas (fried aubergine), espinacas con garbanzos (check for meat stock), cheese and patatas. Mountain stews and cured meats dominate, so vegan options are more limited.

Halal: Very limited in Ronda. Pork is everywhere, including in many vegetable dishes. Fish, lamb and vegetarian tapas are the alternatives; Málaga has more halal options.

Gluten-free: Spain has good coeliac awareness, and many bars mark 'sin gluten' dishes. Gazpacho usually contains bread, and migas are bread. Grilled meats, ham, cheese and tortilla are usually safe; ask about fryers.

Common questions

Do I need to tip in Ronda?

Tipping is modest in Spain. Leave small change at a bar, and around 5–10% for good service at a sit-down meal. It is never compulsory. On a food or wine tour, a tip of roughly €5–10 per person for a good guide is appreciated.

What time do people eat?

Lunch runs from about 14:00 to 16:00 and dinner from about 21:00. Bars serve tapas earlier in the evening, but at 19:00 most restaurants are quiet or still closed. Breakfast is usually coffee and a tostada with olive oil and tomato.

Which Ronda dish should I try?

Rabo de toro (oxtail stew) is on almost every menu and is done well here. Also try a board of cured meats and Payoyo goat's cheese from the nearby hills, and in winter a plate of migas or a lamb or kid stew. Pair it with a glass of local Serranía de Ronda wine.

Can I visit wineries from Ronda?

Yes. Several small wineries around the town offer tours and tastings, usually by appointment. Most need a car or a tour; a few are close enough for a taxi. Book ahead and check which days they open.

How much should I budget for food per day?

About €20–30 per person covers breakfast and tapas for lunch and dinner. A menú del día lunch plus a tapas dinner with wine runs about €40–60. Restaurants with gorge views and fine dining cost noticeably more.

Are restaurants open on Sundays and Mondays?

Many are open on Sunday, especially at lunch, which is a big family meal. Some restaurants and bars close one day a week, often Monday or Tuesday, and some close for a few weeks in winter. Check before going to a specific place.
