Why visit Kiato?

Kiato is a seaside town on the Corinthian Gulf, about 20 kilometres west of Corinth and roughly an hour and a half from Athens by car or by the suburban railway. It is the main town of the municipality of Sikyonia and a relaxed, everyday Greek base rather than a resort: a long pebble beach, a working harbour, a waterfront lined with cafés, and fish tavernas where locals eat.

Its real value is what lies around it. Just inland is ancient Sikyon, with its theatre, stadium and a small museum. Drive up into the mountains and you reach Lake Stymfalia, linked in myth to the Labours of Heracles, the Feneos plateau, and the stone villages on the slopes of Mount Ziria, where the air cools down even in summer. The coastal plain is famous for Corinthian currants and citrus, and the whole area is within easy reach of Ancient Corinth, the Corinth Canal, Nemea's wineries and Nafplio. For a quiet, authentic Peloponnese stay close to Athens, Kiato is an excellent choice.
