Why visit Kas?

Kaş is a small harbour town on Turkey's Lycian coast, between Fethiye and Antalya, and one of the most relaxed places on the Turquoise Coast. Its whitewashed houses with bougainvillea climb above a harbour of wooden boats, and the Greek island of Kastellorizo lies just across the water.

Ancient Antiphellos is part of the town: a Hellenistic theatre faces the sea, and Lycian rock tombs are carved into the cliffs above. Kaş is one of Turkey's top diving centres, with clear water, wrecks and underwater caves. Boat trips go to Kekova, where the ruins of a sunken Lycian city lie in shallow water beside the castle village of Kaleköy (Simena). The Lycian Way long-distance trail passes nearby, and Kaputaş beach, a turquoise cove at the foot of a canyon, is a short drive west. In the evening, eat meze and grilled fish on the harbour, and wander the shopping lanes uphill.
