Why visit Alanya?

Alanya is a beach resort on Turkey's Mediterranean coast, east of Antalya, built around a rocky peninsula crowned by a Seljuk castle. Its long sandy beaches, warm sea and long season make it one of Turkey's most popular holiday towns.

Cleopatra Beach, on the west side of the peninsula, is the best known, with fine sand and clear water. The Red Tower, an octagonal brick tower built in the 13th century, guards the harbour and the old shipyard, the Tersane, while a cable car runs up to the castle walls for views over both bays. Boat trips circle the peninsula to sea caves such as the Phosphorus Cave and Pirates' Cave. Damlataş Cave, right by the beach, is known for its stalactites and humid air. Inland, the Dim River and Dim Cave offer cooler days, and Sapadere Canyon has walkways above waterfalls. Alanya is lively at night, with bars around the harbour, and offers good value hotels and food.
