How many days do you need in Himare?
Give Himare 4 days to properly experience the Albanian Riviera's finest coastal scenery. This allows time to relax on Livadi and Potam beaches, explore the abandoned stone village of Old Himare, and day-trip to historical castles and hidden coves without rushing through winding coastal roads and midday summer heat.
Short answer

2 days
Spend day one exploring Himare's main promenade and swimming at Spille and Potam beaches. On day two, hike up to Old Himare for sweeping sea views and dine on fresh seafood in the old town's rustic tavernas before departure.
You give up: You miss out on relaxing at Livadi beach, visiting the stunning Gjipe Canyon, and exploring nearby coastal villages like Dhermi and Vuno.
3 days
Cover the central beaches of Spille and Potam on day one. Day two is for discovering Old Himare village and Livadi beach. On day three, take a boat trip to the secluded Grama Bay or hike the dramatic Gjipe Canyon.
You give up: You skip relaxing beach days, deeper exploration of the Acropolis of Himare, and day trips further down the Riviera toward Porto Palermo.
4 days
Balance beach time at Livadi and Potam with cultural stops at Old Himare. Dedicate a full day to hiking Gjipe Canyon and relaxing on its wild beach, plus an afternoon exploring the Venetian fortress at Porto Palermo.
You give up: You bypass a slower-paced Riviera holiday and miss venturing inland to the Llogara Pass or visiting the Blue Eye spring.
If you can stay longer
An extra two to three days lets you slow down and venture beyond the immediate coastline. You can take a day trip to the imposing Porto Palermo Castle, explore the Dhermi monastery ruins, venture inland to Gjirokaster's stone city, or hike the stunning Llogara Pass trails for panoramic Adriatic views.

Common questions
Do I need a car in Himare?
Renting a car is strongly recommended if you want to explore nearby sights like Gjipe Canyon, Porto Palermo, and surrounding mountain villages. While local minibuses (furgons) run along the main coastal highway, they operate on loose schedules and rarely reach isolated trailheads or hidden beaches efficiently.
When is the best time to visit Himare?
June and September offer the ideal balance of warm swimming weather, open tavernas, and manageable crowds. July and August bring peak Mediterranean heat and heavy tourist traffic, making coastal parking difficult and accommodation much pricier, while spring and late autumn see many seasonal businesses closed.
Are the beaches sandy or rocky?
Most beaches in and around Himare, such as Potam and Livadi, feature smooth white pebbles rather than fine sand. This makes the seawater exceptionally clear and turquoise, perfect for snorkeling, but walking barefoot can be uncomfortable, so packing water shoes or sturdy sandals is essential.
