Is Turin expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Turin is good value for a major Italian city: noticeably cheaper than Milan, Rome, Florence or Venice for hotels and eating out, and with excellent food at fair prices. Expect about €89 a day per person on a budget, about €173 mid-range and about €335 for comfort. Hotels and the big museums take most of the money; public transport is cheap.

Where the money goes
Accommodation takes the biggest share: San Salvario near Porta Nuova has rooms from about €70–110, the centre around Via Roma €110–180, and palazzo hotels on the royal squares €220–400. Museums come next, because the Egyptian Museum, the Royal Museums and the Mole each cost about €15–25. Food is the pleasant surprise — a trattoria dinner with wine is about €30–45, and aperitivo snacks can make a light dinner for €9–14. Transport costs little, at about €2 for a 100-minute ticket.
When it is cheaper
January, February and July–August (outside trade fairs) often have lower hotel prices. Rates rise during big events such as trade fairs, the Book Fair in May and major sporting or music events, so check the calendar for your dates.
How to spend less
- Work out whether the Torino+Piemonte Card (from about €30–40) pays off for your museum list before buying it.
- Drink your espresso standing at the bar; table service costs more.
- Make the aperitivo your light dinner on one or two evenings.
- Stay in San Salvario, a short walk from Porta Nuova and the Valentino park.
- Buy fruit, cheese and bread at Porta Palazzo market for a picnic.
- Refill your bottle at the green 'toret' street fountains instead of buying water.
