Is Strasbourg expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Strasbourg is moderately expensive: cheaper than Paris for rooms and meals, but similar to other big French regional cities, and much pricier during the Christmas market. A realistic budget day is about €90 per person, mid-range about €185, and the money goes mostly on hotels in or near the Grande Île and winstub dinners.

Where the money goes
Accommodation is the biggest cost, from about €80–120 near the station to €130–220 on the Grande Île and €220–450 with cathedral or Petite France views; prices jump during the Christmas market and the European Parliament's plenary weeks. Eating in winstubs costs €25–40 per person for dinner with wine, while bakery snacks and weekday lunch formules are good value. Sights are moderate (museums about €7.50 each, the cathedral platform about €8, the boat tour about €19–20), and a day trip to Colmar adds about €13–15 each way by train. Strasbourg also charges a tourist tax per person per night.
When it is cheaper
January to March (outside school holidays) and the summer months are usually cheaper for hotels; the Christmas market period from late November to 24 December is by far the most expensive, and plenary weeks of the European Parliament can also push rates up.
How to spend less
- Stay around the station (about €80–120) and walk 15 minutes to the cathedral.
- Eat a weekday lunch formule as your main meal.
- Enjoy the free view from the roof terrace of the Barrage Vauban instead of paying for a viewpoint.
- Buy a 24-hour tram pass (about €5) if you plan several rides.
- Rent a Vélhop bike to explore the Neustadt and European quarter.
- Avoid the Christmas market weeks, or book a hotel many months ahead.
