Is Sorrento expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Sorrento is expensive by southern Italian standards, as most resort towns in the region are, but noticeably cheaper than Positano, Capri or Amalfi for rooms and meals. A budget day is about €115 per person, mid-range about €230 and comfort about €470. Ferries, Capri prices and summer hotel rates are where the money goes.

Where the money goes
Accommodation is the largest cost: about €50 per person sharing in Sant'Agnello or near the station, €100 in the old town and €230 in a cliff-top hotel, plus a tourist tax of a few euros per person per night. Food is about €30–55 a day, with a €2–4 coperto in most restaurants. Sights cost €20–40 a day, with Pompeii, Herculaneum, the Blue Grotto and the Ravello villas the main tickets. Transport is unusually high for a small town, about €15–35 a day on average, because the Capri ferry alone is about €50–60 return.
When it is cheaper
April and October are quieter and cheaper than June to September, with all main services still running. From November to March many hotels close and Amalfi ferries stop, but those that stay open are much cheaper.
How to spend less
- Stay in Sant'Agnello or near the Circumvesuviana station, one stop or a short walk from the centre, for cheaper rooms.
- Eat pizza in Sant'Agnello or Piano di Sorrento, where prices are often lower than in the centre.
- Take the SITA bus along the Amalfi Coast one way and the ferry the other, instead of a private driver.
- Have dinner in Sorrento after a day on Capri, where prices are about double.
- Make a picnic of mozzarella, bread and tomatoes from a deli for the Pompeii day.
- Check the coperto and service lines on the menu before you sit down.
