Is Siargao expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Siargao is cheap by Western standards but no longer one of the cheapest places in the Philippines: prices in General Luna have risen with its popularity, and cafés and resorts charge close to Manila prices. Expect about ₱2,800 a day per person on a budget, about ₱6,600 mid-range and about ₱15,500 for comfort. Tours, boats and scooter hire are the main costs, along with rooms in peak months.

Where the money goes
Rooms are the biggest cost: surf hostels start at about ₱700–1,500 for a bed or basic room, bungalows near Tourism Road cost ₱2,500–5,000 and beach resorts ₱8,000–18,000. Activities come next, because most of Siargao's highlights are reached by boat — island hopping, Sugba Lagoon and Sohoton each cost about ₱1,500–3,500 per person — plus surf lessons and small environmental fees. Food ranges widely, from ₱120–200 at a carinderia to ₱500–1,000 for dinner at a café or restaurant.
When it is cheaper
December to February, the wettest season, and some months outside the surf and summer peaks often have lower room rates. Holy Week, Christmas and New Year, and the autumn surf season are the busiest and dearest times.
How to spend less
- Eat lunch at carinderias, where rice with a choice of dishes costs about ₱120–200.
- Rent one scooter for your whole stay instead of paying for tricycles and habal-habal each time.
- Join shared tours for island hopping and Sugba Lagoon instead of private charters.
- Bring enough cash from Manila or Cebu; ATMs on the island can run out in high season.
- Stay a little away from Tourism Road for cheaper rooms.
- Learn to surf at gentler breaks such as Jacking Horse, which needs no boat fee.
