Is Sardinia expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Sardinia ranges from very expensive (the Costa Smeralda, among the priciest coasts in the Mediterranean) to good value inland and in the south. A budget day is about €110 per person, mid-range about €210, and the money goes on summer accommodation, the car you almost certainly need, boat trips and beach fees.

Where the money goes
Accommodation is the main cost, especially in August and on the north-east coast. A car is essential, and rental, fuel and summer beach parking add up. Boat trips (La Maddalena, the Gulf of Orosei) are popular extras. Some beaches such as La Pelosa and Cala Goloritzè charge access or environmental fees. Food in agriturismi and inland trattorias is good value.
When it is cheaper
May, June, late September and October are much cheaper than July–August, often by a third or more; from November to March many coastal businesses close.
How to spend less
- Stay in agriturismi or inland B&Bs rather than beach resorts.
- Fly into one airport and out of another to avoid driving back.
- Book the rental car early, especially for August.
- Arrive at popular beaches before 10:00 to find parking.
- Eat in inland villages, where set menus are cheaper.
- Avoid the Costa Smeralda for overnight stays; visit for a day.
