Where the money goes
Accommodation is the largest cost: a double in the Centro Histórico runs about €140–240, more during Semana Santa, the August Feria and summer weekends. Eating out is cheap by comparison, with tapas from €3 and shared raciones of fried fish €8–14. Museums and monuments are inexpensive (the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro together are about €5–6, and many sites are free on Sunday afternoons). The main extras are day trips to the Caminito del Rey or Ronda and beach-club loungers.
When it is cheaper
Rooms are usually cheapest from November to February (except Christmas), often 25–40% below summer rates, while the weather stays mild at 17–21°C. Prices peak in July–August, Semana Santa and the August Feria.
How to spend less
- Visit the Alcazaba, Gibralfaro and other museums free on Sunday afternoons (expect queues).
- Drink at bars where a tapa sometimes comes with the drink, and order raciones to share.
- Take the Cercanías C1 train from the airport (about 12 minutes) instead of a taxi.
- Eat espetos at chiringuitos in Pedregalejo and El Palo, where locals go.
- Stay in Soho or near María Zambrano station for cheaper rooms within walking distance.
- Book the Caminito del Rey directly on the official site weeks ahead, avoiding resale markups.
