Where the money goes

The big cost is the sea: a shared speedboat day is roughly Rp 1.5–3 million per person, an overnight phinisi from about Rp 2–5 million, and diving about Rp 1.8–2.8 million for two dives. Komodo National Park fees are separate and have changed several times, so confirm them with your operator. On land, budget guesthouses cost about Rp 250,000–500,000, hill hotels with pools Rp 700,000–1,500,000, and resorts much more. Local warung food is cheap, while Western cafés charge Bali prices.

When it is cheaper

The wet season (December–March) usually brings lower boat and hotel prices, though seas are rougher. July and August are the most expensive and busiest months.
