Is Granada expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Granada is one of the cheapest cities in western Europe for a short break, and cheaper than Seville or Barcelona. A budget traveller can manage on about €73 per person a day sharing a room, mid-range about €161 and comfort about €370. The free tapa that comes with each drink makes eating out very good value; the Alhambra is the one ticket you must budget for.

Where the money goes
Accommodation is the largest cost, especially in the Albaicín and on the Alhambra hill, where views come at a price. Food is cheap thanks to the free tapa culture: a tapas crawl can replace dinner for the price of a few drinks. Sights are inexpensive except for the Alhambra, a hammam session and a flamenco show; local transport costs little because the centre is walkable.
When it is cheaper
July and August, when the city is very hot, and the winter months from November to February (except Christmas and New Year) usually see hotel rates fall by roughly 20-40% compared with spring and Holy Week.
How to spend less
- Do a free-tapa crawl on Calle Navas, in Realejo or around Plaza Nueva: one drink, one tapa, then move on.
- Book the Alhambra on the official site well ahead; resale sites charge much more.
- Eat a menú del día at lunch for a full meal at a fixed price.
- Enjoy the Mirador de San Nicolás view but eat and drink a few streets away.
- Walk down from the Albaicín and Alhambra and ride the minibus only uphill.
- Stay in the centre or Realejo rather than the Albaicín for cheaper rooms.
