Is Cork expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Cork is expensive by European standards, like the rest of Ireland, but noticeably cheaper than Dublin for hotels, with a mid-range day at about €170 per person. Rooms, restaurant meals and pints are where the money goes; museums are cheap and some of the best sights are free.

Where the money goes
Accommodation is the largest cost: a central double runs about €150–220, and prices rise sharply during the Jazz Festival, the Midsummer Festival and big hurling or rugby matches. Eating out is the second: a main course in a restaurant is typically €18–28 and a pint about €6. The day trips add up too, with Blarney Castle, the Titanic Experience in Cobh and Spike Island costing €13–30 each. On the plus side, the English Market, the Crawford Art Gallery and Elizabeth Fort's walls are free, and the centre is walkable.
When it is cheaper
From November to March (outside Christmas and the Jazz Festival at the end of October), hotel rates are usually 20–30% lower than in summer. Midweek nights are cheaper than weekends all year.
How to spend less
- Buy picnic food or a lunch at the English Market instead of sit-down lunches.
- Book Blarney Castle tickets online, where they are cheaper.
- Use the train to Cobh (roughly €6–8 return) rather than a coach tour.
- Get a Leap Card for buses; fares are lower than cash.
- Check festival and match dates before booking a hotel.
- Spend rainy hours at the free Crawford Art Gallery.
