Is Alonissos expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Alonissos is moderately priced for a Greek island: cheaper than Mykonos or Santorini, a little cheaper than neighbouring Skiathos, but not a bargain in July and August. Expect about €75 a day per person on a budget, about €145 mid-range and about €290 for comfort. Rooms, the boat day in the marine park and scooter hire are the main costs; food in family tavernas is fair.

Where the money goes
Your room is the biggest cost: family-run rooms in Patitiri start around €45–80 for a double, while Votsi and Chora cost €80–160 in summer and boutique hotels with pools €170–320. The next big expense is getting around and out to sea — a scooter at €25–35 a day, taxi boats at €10–20 and the full-day Marine Park boat trip at €50–75. Food is reasonable at €15–25 per person in a taverna, but fresh fish sold by the kilo quickly doubles the bill. Getting there also adds up, because there is no airport and you need a ferry or fast boat from Skiathos or Volos.
When it is cheaper
June and September are usually noticeably cheaper than late July and August, and May and October cheaper again, though some boats and tavernas are closed then. Prices peak in the first half of August, around the 15 August holiday.
How to spend less
- Stay in Patitiri, where rooms are cheapest and the island bus, taxi boats and ferries all leave from the harbour.
- Hire a scooter for one or two days to see the east coast, rather than for your whole stay.
- Always ask the price per kilo before ordering fish, and ask how much the chosen fish weighs.
- Order the house wine by the carafe; it is far cheaper than bottled wine.
- Buy a picnic of cheese pie, bread, tomatoes and fruit in Patitiri for beach days in coves without a taverna.
- Travel in June or September, when rooms cost less and boats and tavernas are still running.
