Free things to do
- Sugar Beach (Anse des Pitons), public by law
- Reduit Beach in Rodney Bay
- The Gros Islet Friday night street party (food and drinks extra)
- Castries Market and the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception
- Derek Walcott Square in Castries
- The view over Castries harbour from Morne Fortune
Cheap eats
- Fish fry plates at Anse La Raye or Gros Islet — about EC$30–80
- Roti from a local snack shop — about EC$15–25
- Bakes and saltfish for breakfast — about EC$10–15
- Local lunch plate of rice, peas and stewed chicken — about EC$20–35
- Fresh fruit and coconut water from roadside stalls — a few EC dollars
Where to sleep for less
Budget travellers stay in guesthouses and small hotels in Gros Islet and Rodney Bay, near beaches, buses and restaurants, where rooms cost about EC$300–500 a night. Soufrière has a few simple guesthouses for the Pitons. There are very few hostels on the island.
Getting around cheaply
Local minibuses are the cheapest option (about EC$3–10 a ride) between Castries, Gros Islet, Soufrière and Vieux Fort, though they do not reach every sight. From Hewanorra airport, minibuses to Vieux Fort and on to Castries are cheap but slow; taxis cost roughly EC$200–300. A rental car shared between two can be cheaper than taxis for exploring.

- Choose accommodation with a kitchen and shop at local supermarkets and markets.
- Plan sights by area (north one day, Soufrière another) to reduce transport costs.
- Use water taxis in Soufrière instead of driving to Sugar Beach and Anse Chastanet.
- Bring your own snorkel gear for Anse Chastanet.
- Ask your guesthouse for trusted taxi drivers and fixed prices.
