Koh Samui on a budget: how to do it well

Short answer

Yes, though Samui is less of a backpacker island than Koh Phangan: a realistic minimum is about ฿1,750 per person per day (bed ฿500, food ฿500, sights ฿500, transport ฿250). Lamai bungalows, night markets and songthaews keep costs down.
