Getting around cheaply
The old town is walkable in 15 minutes. City buses (about 3–4 lei) link it with the railway station about 3 km away. Hourly buses from Autogara 2 go to Bran and Rasnov for around 10 lei. From Bucharest, the train (about 2.5–3 hours) is the cheapest option.
A sample budget day
- Morning: bakery breakfast (about 10 lei), then Council Square, Strada Sforii and Catherine's Gate (free)
- Lunch: meniul zilei in a local restaurant (roughly 35–45 lei)
- Afternoon: Black Church (roughly 25–30 lei) and the walk along the walls to the White Tower
- Evening: hike up Tampa for sunset (free), then mici and a chimney cake (about 40 lei)

More ways to save
- Do Bran and Rasnov on the same bus route in one day rather than booking a car just for them.
- Buy mountain cheese and honey at Piata Astra rather than at the roadside stalls by Bran.
- Ask for tap water or choose beer and local wine, which are cheaper than soft drinks in many restaurants.
- Visit in May, June or September for good walking weather without peak summer prices.
- Arrive at Bran at opening time: the ticket is the same price, but the visit is much more enjoyable without the queues.
- Base yourself in Brasov and do Sinaia or Sighisoara as day trips by train instead of moving hotels.
