Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) to Venice
The quickest cheap way is the airport bus to Piazzale Roma, about 20–30 minutes. For a slower arrival by water, the Alilaguna boat goes directly to stops around the historic centre.
Cars and buses stop at Piazzale Roma, the edge of the historic centre. From there you continue on foot or by vaporetto (water bus). Low-cost flights may use Treviso (TSF).
Best for most people: Bus. The airport bus is fast, cheap and drops you at Piazzale Roma, the main vaporetto hub.

Tips
- Check which vaporetto stop is closest to your hotel before you land; walking with suitcases over bridges takes longer than it looks.
- Vaporetto single tickets are pricey (about €9–10); a 1–3 day pass usually pays off.
- Validate vaporetto tickets at the stop before boarding.
- Many day-trippers pay a Venice access fee on peak days; overnight guests are generally exempt but may need to register — check the city website.
Common questions
How much is a taxi from Venice airport?
A road taxi to Piazzale Roma costs about €40–50 and takes about 20 minutes, but it cannot go into the historic centre. A private water taxi to your hotel costs roughly €110–150 or more for the whole boat. Shared water taxis are a cheaper middle option.
How do I get from Piazzale Roma to my hotel?
Walk or take a vaporetto (water bus). Line 1 runs slowly down the Grand Canal past Rialto to San Marco; line 2 is quicker. Check your hotel's nearest stop in advance. Expect bridges with steps, so travel light if you plan to walk.
Is there transport at night?
Airport buses run until about midnight or a little later; check last departures. Alilaguna boats stop in the evening. After that, a taxi to Piazzale Roma plus a night vaporetto (N line) or a water taxi is the way into the centre.
Is the boat from the airport worth it?
The Alilaguna is scenic and goes straight into the lagoon, but it takes 60–90 minutes and can be crowded with luggage. If you are tired, the bus to Piazzale Roma plus a vaporetto is usually faster. The water taxi is the most memorable but expensive.
