Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) to Porto
The metro (violet line E) runs from the terminal to Trindade in the centre in about 30 minutes for a few euros. Taxis and ride-hailing take about 20 minutes and cost much less than in most European cities.
Best for most people: Metro. The station is right at the terminal, the ride is direct to central Porto and the fare is low.

Tips
- The Andante card can be recharged for later trips in the city.
- If staying in Ribeira, get off at São Bento (change at Trindade) or walk downhill from Trindade.
- Ribeira streets are steep and cobbled; with heavy luggage a taxi to the door can be worth it.
- Uber and Bolt are widely used and usually the cheapest door-to-door option.
Common questions
How much is a taxi from Porto airport to the centre?
Expect roughly €20–30 to central Porto on the meter, with small extras for luggage and night journeys. Ride-hailing apps like Uber and Bolt are often cheaper, around €12–20. The trip takes about 20 minutes outside rush hour. Take taxis from the official rank outside Arrivals.
How long does the metro take?
About 30–35 minutes from the airport to Trindade, the central hub. From there you can walk to Aliados and the main shopping streets or change lines to São Bento for Ribeira. Trains run every 20–30 minutes from around 06:00 until about 01:00.
What ticket do I need for the metro?
You need a Z4 Andante ticket for the airport trip. Buy a reusable Andante card at the machine, load a Z4 journey and validate the card on the reader before boarding. Tickets cost a few euros. Machines accept cards and cash.
Is there public transport at night?
The metro runs until about 01:00. After that, STCP night buses serve the airport, but they are less frequent and slower. Taxis and ride-hailing operate 24 hours and are not expensive in Porto, so for very late arrivals they are usually the best choice.
