Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) to Lisbon
The metro Red line runs from the airport and reaches Baixa in about 25 minutes with one change, for a couple of euros. A taxi or ride-hailing car takes 15–25 minutes and costs about €15–20 in normal traffic.
Best for most people: Metro. It is cheap, frequent and avoids the traffic jams that often slow taxis around the airport.

Tips
- Terminal 2 (mostly low-cost flights) has no metro station; a free shuttle bus connects it to Terminal 1.
- If you will use transport a lot, load the Navegante card with a 24-hour ticket instead of single fares.
- Taxi queues at Arrivals can be long in the evening; ride-hailing pick-up may be quicker.
- The airport is close to the city, so even a taxi ride is short outside rush hour.
Common questions
How much is a taxi from Lisbon airport to the centre?
A metered taxi to Baixa, Chiado or Avenida da Liberdade usually costs about €15–20, a little more at night, at weekends or with large luggage. Take a car from the official rank outside Arrivals and check that the meter is running. Uber and Bolt are often similar or slightly cheaper depending on demand.
Does the metro run at night?
No. The Lisbon metro runs roughly from 06:30 until about 01:00. If you land after the last train, use a taxi from the official rank or a ride-hailing app. Night buses exist in the city, but with luggage a taxi is the practical choice late at night.
How long does the metro take to the centre?
Allow about 25–30 minutes from Aeroporto to Baixa-Chiado or Rossio, including one change at Alameda or São Sebastião. Trains are frequent, so waiting time is short. Add a few minutes to walk from Arrivals to the station, which is directly connected to Terminal 1.
Can I pay by card?
Ticket machines in the metro accept bank cards as well as cash. Most taxis take cards, but it is worth asking before you set off. Ride-hailing apps charge the card stored in your account, which avoids any payment discussion on arrival.
