Season by season

Spring (Mar–May)

Cool and changeable, from about 2°C in March to 13°C in May; lakes stay frozen until late May or June and high trails are snowbound.

Summer (Jun–Aug)

Highs of 20–24°C and long days; the lakes turn turquoise from late June, but June is also the rainiest month (about 15 rainy days) and crowds peak in July–August.

Autumn (Sep–Nov)

September is crisp at about 18°C with larches turning gold late in the month; by November highs drop below freezing and the ski season approaches.

Winter (Dec–Feb)

Cold, with highs around -4 to -7°C and lows near -15°C; skiing at Sunshine Village, Lake Louise and Norquay, and skating on frozen lakes.

April to early June is a shoulder season of slush, frozen lakes and closed trails. July and August are wonderful but crowded and costly; if you must go then, book rooms and shuttles months ahead.
