Your day-by-day plan

Day1
Bolzano

Arrive in Bolzano

Morning: Fly into Bolzano or transfer from Innsbruck or Venice, then check into your guesthouse and freshen up.

Afternoon: Stroll the old town, visit the Bolzano Cathedral and pop into the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology to see Ötzi the Iceman.

Evening: Enjoy a welcome dinner of Tyrolean dumplings and local Lagrein red wine at a traditional Weinstube.

Pick up a Südtirol Guest Pass from your hotel for free bus rides throughout the region.
Day2
Castelrotto / Alpe di Siusi

Alpe di Siusi Plateau

Morning: Take the cable car from Ortisei up to Alpe di Siusi, the largest high-altitude Alpine meadow in Europe, and begin the panoramic Panorama Trail.

Afternoon: Hike the loop past Compatsch to Saltria with sweeping views of the Sassolungo massif, covering around 12 km at a gentle pace.

Evening: Descend to Castelrotto village for dinner and an overnight stay at a family-run Gasthof.

Start the cable car before 9 am to beat crowds and secure a spot on the first gondola.
Day3
Val Gardena

Val Gardena & Sella Pass

Morning: Drive or bus the scenic Sella Pass road and hike the Sella Ronda Trail section above 2200 m with incredible 360-degree Dolomite views.

Afternoon: Explore the charming village of Selva di Val Gardena, browse local woodcarving shops and refuel at a rifugio with polenta and goulash.

Evening: Settle into Val Gardena accommodation and enjoy a relaxed evening walk through Ortisei's pedestrian lanes.

The Sella Pass road can be closed to private cars on summer Sundays — check dates and use the free shuttle bus.
Day4
Corvara, Alta Badia

Alta Badia & Corvara

Morning: Bus to Corvara and hike the Prà de Rit panoramic trail, a moderate 10 km route with views across the Badia Valley to the Fanes plateau.

Afternoon: Explore the car-free upper village of Corvara and visit the Ladin cultural museum to learn about the valley's unique indigenous culture.

Evening: Dine at a rifugio or local restaurant on Schlutzkrapfen (spinach-filled pasta) and finish with a local schnapps.

Alta Badia has some of the best Michelin-starred mountain dining in Italy — book ahead if you want a special meal.
Day5
Misurina / Tre Cime

Tre Cime di Lavaredo

Morning: Drive or bus to Lago di Misurina and take the toll road to the Auronzo Hut, then begin the unmissable Tre Cime loop trail (10 km, 3 hours).

Afternoon: Complete the full circuit around the three iconic peaks passing Rifugio Lavaredo and Rifugio Locatelli with stunning north-face views.

Evening: Return to Cortina d'Ampezzo for dinner and check in — treat yourself to a slightly upgraded hotel after a big hiking day.

Arrive at the Auronzo Hut car park before 8 am in peak summer — it fills completely by mid-morning.
Day6
Cortina d'Ampezzo

Cortina d'Ampezzo Trails

Morning: Take the Faloria cable car up from Cortina and hike the Croda da Lago trail, a moderately challenging 14 km route with crystal-clear alpine lakes.

Afternoon: Return to Cortina by early afternoon and explore the elegant town centre, visit the Olympic ice rink area and browse high-end mountain gear shops.

Evening: Enjoy a farewell-eve dinner on Cortina's buzzing Corso Italia with Aperol Spritz and wood-fired pizza.

Cortina is pricier than other Dolomite towns — save money by picnicking on trail with supplies from the morning market.
Day7
Venice / Departure

Depart via Venice

Morning: Enjoy a leisurely breakfast then transfer by bus or private transfer (2.5 hours) from Cortina to Venice Santa Lucia station or Marco Polo Airport.

Afternoon: If time allows before your flight, drop your luggage at the station and take a 2-hour vaporetto ride through Venice's Grand Canal.

Evening: Fly home with full memory cards, tired legs and plans to return next summer.

Book the Cortina-Venice Dolomiti Bus ticket in advance online — it's scenic, cheap and runs daily in summer.
