Where to stay in Sarande
Sarandë clings tightly to a steep crescent bay, stretching linearly along the Ionian coastline. Because the city cascades down a sharp hillside, choosing your sleeping spot is entirely a vertical calculation. Stay near the port or boulevard for flat, walkable access to tavernas, but expect heavy street noise. Head uphill for sweeping sea views and quiet, but be prepared for grueling, calf-burning climbs on every single return trip from the beach.

Rruga Mitat Hoxha (Seafront Promenade)
This is the pulsing commercial artery running parallel to the harbor. It feels energetic, dense, and slightly chaotic with the noise of outdoor dining and evening strolls. Everything is flat and walkable here, including the main ferry terminal, Plazhi Publik, and the archaeological ruins of the Forty Saints Monastery trail starting just behind.
Kodër District
Situated northwest of the center, Kodër feels like a neighborhood rather than a pure tourist strip. Narrow lanes slope down to popular local swimming spots like Mango Beach. It is entirely walkable to grocery shops, bakeries, and casual seafood grills along Rruga Butrinti, though the walk into the central port area takes about twenty minutes.
Kodër i Gjelbër (Green Hill)
Perched high above the main highway, this hillside residential zone is quiet and dominated by independent guesthouses. The atmosphere is authentically local, featuring sloping olive groves and stray cats. It is a steep, sweat-inducing walk back up from the center, but you are rewarded with uninterrupted sunset views over Corfu and zero late-night pedestrian noise.
One thing to think about
Think twice before booking right on the southern stretch of Rruga Butrinti near the main public beaches in mid-summer; traffic jams on this single-lane artery cause relentless vehicle noise, exhaust fumes, and dust that ruin any balcony relaxation, while offering little authentic local character.

Once you have a bed
The things that sell out first in Sarande are the small-group tours and the skip-the-line tickets.
Common questions
Do I need a car when staying in Sarandë?
If you stay directly in the central neighborhoods along the promenade, you do not need a car for daily essentials, dining, or taking ferries. However, a car or local bus is essential if you plan to visit Butrint National Park, Ksamil's beaches, or the Blue Eye spring outside the city.
Is Sarandë noisy at night?
Yes, parts of it can be very loud. Waterfront properties and accommodations directly above the main beach clubs experience heavy bass thumping and crowds late into the summer nights. If you are a light sleeper, look for accommodations set back into the hillside or behind the main commercial strip.
Which beach is best within walking distance of the center?
Plazhi Publik is right in the center for maximum convenience, but it gets extremely crowded. For a better walking experience, head slightly north toward the small pebbled coves near Hotel Santa Quaranta or south toward Mango Beach, where the water clears up and the beach bars are slightly less cramped.
