Common questions
How long is the ferry from Syros to Tinos?
About 30 to 50 minutes depending on the boat. It is one of the shortest crossings in the Cyclades. In summer there are several departures a day, and in winter there is usually at least one daily service. Check current timetables before travelling.
Can I do it as a day trip?
Yes, it is one of the easiest island day trips. Take a morning ferry from Ermoupoli, visit the church in Tinos town and some villages such as Pyrgos, and return on an evening boat. In summer there are many options; in winter check that a return sailing exists on your date.
What is the cheapest way?
Conventional ferries are usually the cheapest, often around €10–15 per person. Fast catamarans cost more but save only a little time on this short route. Students and residents may get discounts. You can buy tickets online or at agencies near the port in Ermoupoli.
Do I need to book ahead?
Usually not, except in August, at Easter and especially around 15 August, when pilgrims travel to Tinos for the Feast of the Assumption. At those times boats and hotels fill up, so book early. The rest of the year you can generally buy a ticket on the day.
