Tips

Common questions

How long is the bus?

About 6 to 7 hours on National Road 6, depending on stops and traffic. Buses leave throughout the day and at night. Most buses stop once or twice for food and toilets. Choose a company with good reviews and comfortable seats.

Is flying worth it?

The flight is about 45 minutes, but the new Siem Reap airport is about 50 km from town. With transfers and check-in, it saves a few hours compared with the bus. Fares are lowest if you book a few weeks early.

What is the cheapest way?

The bus is cheapest, from about US$10. Minivans are similar in price and slightly faster. Buy tickets from the company office or online the day before. Night buses with sleeper berths are available for a little more, and save a hotel night.

Is there a boat?

Boats on the Tonle Sap have run between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, but they are seasonal and depend on water levels. Check locally. They are usually only practical in the wet season when water levels are high. Buses are much more reliable.
