How to get from Folegandros to Santorini

Folegandros has no airport, so the only way to Santorini is by ferry from Karavostasis port to Athinios. High-speed boats take about 1 h to 1 h 30 in summer; conventional ferries take about 2 to 3 h and run less often. Outside summer, connections are few and may need a change on another island.

Tips

Common questions

Can I fly from Folegandros to Santorini?

No. Folegandros has no airport, so every trip to Santorini is by sea. The ferry from Karavostasis to Athinios is short, about 1 h to 1 h 30 on a high-speed boat or 2 to 3 h on a conventional ferry. Once on Santorini you can fly onwards from the island's airport to Athens and many European cities.

How often do ferries run from Folegandros to Santorini?

In summer there is usually at least one connection a day, often more, mixing high-speed boats and conventional ferries. In spring and autumn sailings drop to a few a week, and in winter there may be no direct link, so you may need to change on another island or go via Piraeus. Always check current timetables before planning.

Do I need to book the ferry in advance?

In July and August, yes, especially on high-speed boats, which have limited seats and sell out. Book online a few days to weeks ahead. Outside peak season you can usually buy tickets at the port agencies on the day. If you are taking a car, reserve a vehicle space early, as car decks fill quickly.

What happens if the ferry is cancelled?

Strong north winds, the meltemi, can stop high-speed boats on the Cyclades in summer. If your boat is cancelled, the company usually offers a refund or a later sailing, and conventional ferries often still run. This is why it is wise to leave a spare day before an international flight from Santorini.
