Tips

Common questions

Is there a direct train from Córdoba to Toledo?

No. You need to change in Madrid. AVE and other high-speed trains run from Córdoba to Madrid Puerta de Atocha in about 1 hour 45 minutes, and Avant trains run from Atocha to Toledo in about 33 minutes. With the change, allow roughly 3 hours.

How long is the drive?

About 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours for roughly 320 km, depending on the route. You can go north on the A-4 and then cross via Ciudad Real or approach through the Madrid area. Parking in Toledo's old town is very limited; use car parks below the walls.

Can I do it as a day trip?

Not comfortably. With about 3 hours each way by train, you would have only a few hours in Toledo. It is better to stay overnight. Toledo is quieter and atmospheric in the evening after day-trippers from Madrid leave. Hotels inside the walls are close to the main sights.

Do I need to book ahead?

Yes, for the best prices. High-speed fares rise close to departure, and Avant trains to Toledo can be full at weekends and holidays. Book both legs together if possible and leave a comfortable connection time in Madrid. Check current timetables before travel.
