Tips
- Book flights for July–August early; prices rise sharply close to the date.
- On the overnight ferry, a cabin or reclining seat makes a big difference.
- Some ferries sail to Ibiza town and others to Sant Antoni; check which port your ticket uses.
- A car is useful on Ibiza outside town, but bringing it by ferry is expensive; renting on the island is often cheaper.
Common questions
Is the ferry or flight better?
For most travellers the flight is better: about an hour in the air against eight or nine hours by sea. The ferry makes sense if you are bringing a car or motorbike, carrying a lot of luggage, or want to sleep on board and arrive in the morning without paying for a hotel night.
How much does it cost?
Flights often cost about €40 to €150 one way, depending on season and how early you book. Ferry foot-passenger fares are roughly €60 to €120, with cabins and vehicles extra. August and festival weekends are the most expensive times on both.
Which port does the ferry arrive at?
Most ferries from Barcelona arrive at Ibiza town, where the port is a short walk or taxi ride from the old town. Some sailings use Sant Antoni on the west coast. Check the port on your ticket, because the two are about 20 to 30 minutes apart by road.
Do I need to book ahead?
In summer, yes. Flights fill quickly and ferry cabins and car spaces sell out on peak weekends. Outside July and August you can often book a few days before, but prices are lower if you book earlier. Ferry fares for cars are lowest when booked weeks ahead.
