Tips

Common questions

How long is the ferry from Andros to Mykonos?

About 2 to 2 h 30 on the conventional ferries that run Rafina–Andros–Tinos–Mykonos, including a short stop at Tinos. Faster vessels on the same line can be a little quicker. Ferries leave from Gavrio, the port on the west coast of Andros, not from Chora. Check current timetables, especially outside the summer season.

Can I fly from Andros to Mykonos?

No. Andros has no airport, so the ferry is the only way to travel between the two islands. Mykonos does have an airport, but flying would require getting to Athens first, which makes no sense for this short trip. The direct ferry, which runs every day of the year, is the practical choice.

Can I take a car from Andros to Mykonos?

Yes, the conventional ferries on this line carry cars. Vehicle space is limited in July and August, so book ahead. Consider whether you need a car on Mykonos, where parking in town is hard and roads are busy in summer; renting a car or scooter on arrival is often simpler than taking your own.

Do I need to book the Andros to Mykonos ferry in advance?

For foot passengers outside peak season you can usually buy on the day at the port or online. In July and August, and around Greek holidays, book in advance, particularly with a vehicle. Buying online also lets you check the exact departure time and which Mykonos port the ship uses.
