Why visit Phong Nha?

Phong Nha is a small town in north-central Vietnam and the gateway to Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park. The park protects a huge limestone karst landscape with jungle-covered mountains, rivers and some of the largest caves in the world. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Vietnam's top destination for caving.

Boats travel along the Son River into Phong Nha Cave, a long river cave with impressive rock formations. Paradise Cave (Thiên Đường) has a wooden boardwalk through vast chambers filled with stalactites and stalagmites. At the Dark Cave, visitors can zip line, swim and wade through mud inside the cave. The park is also home to Hang Sơn Đoòng, the world's largest known cave passage, which can only be visited on limited, multi-day expeditions. Cycling through rice fields and villages around the town is a relaxed way to spend a day. Local farmstays and homestays serve simple Vietnamese food, often with fresh river fish.
