Why visit Dalat?

Da Lat sits at about 1,500 metres on the Lang Biang Plateau in Vietnam's Central Highlands. The French founded it as a cool hill station in the early 20th century, and it still has colonial villas, pine forests, lakes and flower farms, with spring-like weather all year that feels very different from the rest of Vietnam.

Walk around Xuan Huong Lake and the busy Da Lat Market, which turns into a lively street-food night market. See the pink Domaine de Marie church, the Crazy House, a surreal guesthouse designed by architect Dang Viet Nga, and the art deco Da Lat railway station, from where a short train runs to Trai Mat and the Linh Phuoc Pagoda covered in mosaics. Take the cable car to Truc Lam Zen Monastery above Tuyen Lam Lake, and visit Datanla and Elephant waterfalls, coffee farms and strawberry farms. Da Lat is also a base for canyoning and mountain biking. Try banh can, grilled rice paper, avocado ice cream and local artichoke tea.
