Why visit Margaret River?

Margaret River is a region in the south-west corner of Western Australia, about three hours' drive south of Perth, known for its wineries, surf beaches and tall forests. It produces a small share of Australia's wine but a large share of its premium wine, especially Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

Spend your days visiting cellar doors such as Vasse Felix, Leeuwin Estate and Cullen, many with restaurants overlooking the vines, and stop at local producers for cheese, chocolate and olive oil. The coast has world-class surf breaks at Surfers Point and quieter swimming at Gracetown and Hamelin Bay, where stingrays come into the shallows. Explore limestone caves such as Lake Cave, Jewel Cave and Mammoth Cave, and walk sections of the 123-kilometre Cape to Cape Track between Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin, where a lighthouse marks the meeting of the Indian and Southern oceans. From June to December, migrating whales pass close to the coast.
