Why visit Livingstone?

Livingstone, in southern Zambia, is the town on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls, the great waterfall on the Zambezi River known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, 'the smoke that thunders'. Its spray can be seen from kilometres away, and the falls are a UNESCO World Heritage Site shared with Zimbabwe.

Walk the trails of Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park along the edge of the gorge, cross the Knife-Edge Bridge in the spray, and in the dry season visit Livingstone Island and swim in the Devil's Pool on the lip of the falls. Adrenaline activities include bungee jumping and gorge swings from the Victoria Falls Bridge, white-water rafting on the Zambezi, and helicopter or microlight flights over the falls. Sunset cruises on the upper Zambezi often pass hippos and elephants. The town has colonial-era buildings and the Livingstone Museum, with exhibits on David Livingstone. Chobe National Park in Botswana is an easy day trip for game viewing.
