Common questions
Is it walkable?
The historic center is compact but very steep with slippery cobblestones. You can walk between the Palace and Karavanserai easily, but you will need a cheap local taxi for the trek up to Kish village or to reach the main bus station located downhill.
How do I get there?
Most travelers arrive via a 5-6 hour marshrutka or private car from Baku. There is a night train, but the station is 20km outside town, requiring a taxi transfer. Coming from Georgia, it is a 2-hour drive from the Balakan border crossing.
What is the food specialty?
You must try Piti, a fatty lamb and chickpea stew cooked in clay pots. It is a ritual meal served in two stages. Also, Sheki is famous for its distinct sugary Halva, which is different from the nut-pastes found elsewhere in the Middle East.
