Is Amorgos expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Amorgos is one of the better-value Cycladic islands: clearly cheaper than Santorini or Mykonos and roughly in line with Naxos for rooms and tavernas. A budget traveller needs about €70 a day, mid-range about €145 and comfort about €305 per person. Rooms and any car or scooter hire take most of the money; most sights are free or ask for a small donation.

Where the money goes
Accommodation is the main cost, from family-run rooms in Katapola at €45–80 a double to boutique hotels with pools in Aegiali and Chora at €200–400, plus Greece's per-room, per-night climate resilience fee. The ferry from Piraeus is a noticeable expense, especially on fast boats. On the island, buses are cheap but limited in the south, so a car or scooter for a day or two adds up. Food is fair value, with tavernas around €20–30 per person with wine.
When it is cheaper
May, June and late September are cheaper than late July and August, often by a quarter to a third for rooms. From November to March most rooms close and ferries are fewer.
How to spend less
- Base yourself in Katapola rooms for the lowest prices and the main ferry stop.
- Use the local bus between Katapola, Chora, Agia Anna and Aegiali instead of renting for the whole stay.
- Rent a car or scooter for just one day to cover the far south and Kalotaritissa.
- Take conventional ferries rather than fast boats from Piraeus; they are slower but cheaper.
- Walk the marked trails between villages: the island's best experience costs nothing.
- Fill the tank in advance, as there are only a couple of petrol stations on the island.
