Day2
Santana

Levada do Caldeirão Verde

Morning: Drive north to Queimadas park and begin the magical 13 km levada trail through dense laurel forest.

Afternoon: Reach the emerald Caldeirão Verde waterfall and its dramatic grotto before heading back along the trail.

Evening: Visit Santana's iconic A-frame thatched houses, then dine on caldo verde soup at a local tasca.

💡 Bring a headlamp as the trail passes through several dark tunnels cut into the cliffs.
Day3
Central Mountains

Pico do Arieiro Sunrise Hike

Morning: Set your alarm for 5 am, drive to Pico do Arieiro at 1818 m and watch the sunrise burst above the clouds.

Afternoon: Hike the breathtaking PR1 ridge trail to Pico Ruivo, Madeira's highest peak, through dramatic lunar landscapes.

Evening: Descend to Achada do Teixeira for the shuttle pickup, then relax with a hearty dinner back in Funchal.

💡 Book the PR1 hike in good weather only — cloud and wind can make it hazardous and visibility zero.
Day4
Northwest Madeira

Fanal Laurel Forest & Porto Moniz

Morning: Drive to Fanal in the early mist to wander among ancient, moss-draped laurel trees that feel primordially enchanted.

Afternoon: Continue northwest to Porto Moniz and spend the afternoon swimming in the spectacular volcanic lava rock pools.

Evening: Eat fresh grilled limpets and black scabbard fish at one of the poolside seafood restaurants in Porto Moniz.

💡 Arrive at Fanal before 9 am to catch the ethereal morning mist before it burns off.
Day5
Ribeira Brava

Ribeira Brava & Coastal Cliffs

Morning: Drive the scenic coastal road to Ribeira Brava, visit the parish church and explore the lively market.

Afternoon: Hike the coastal PR115 cliff-top trail between São Vicente and Ponta Delgada for dramatic ocean views.

Evening: Join an afternoon whale-watching boat trip from Calheta marina to spot sperm whales and dolphins.

💡 Book whale-watching tours in advance through Lobosonda or Manta Diving for the most reliable operators.
Day6
Rabaçal

Levada 25 Fontes & Risco Falls

Morning: Take the shuttle bus into the protected Rabaçal valley and hike to the spectacular 100-metre Risco waterfall.

Afternoon: Continue on to the 25 Fontes, a magical pool fed by 25 springs cascading through dense rainforest.

Evening: Return to Funchal via the Paul da Serra plateau for sweeping highland panoramas at golden hour.

💡 The Rabaçal shuttle is mandatory to protect the valley — book your timed ticket online the day before.
Day7
Funchal

Botanical Garden & Farewell

Morning: Visit the excellent Madeira Botanical Garden for a final immersion in the island's extraordinary endemic plant life.

Afternoon: Pick up local crafts and Poncha liqueur at the Mercado dos Lavradores market before heading to the airport.
